Meet Owen

Owen Martin is always getting into his grandfather's tools. He knows the name and use for each one. If he's not playing with actual tools, he's building with Legos or flying paper airplanes -- all natural pastimes for a future aerospace engineer.

When he grows up, this kindergartner from Poca Elementary in Putnam County wants to design aircraft for the U.S. Military. He wants to help the United States remain a free country, with part of his inspiration coming from his grandfather, who served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

"One of my favorite things to do is build airplanes and spaceships with my Legos," Owen wrote in his essay. "My mom and dad tell me that I have to do really good in school, especially in math so I can go to college and take engineering."

This ambitious boy has other goals as well.

"I am also interested in doing missionary work, going to a foreign countries to tell people about Jesus, building churches and taking clothing and supplies to needy people."
