Meet Leah

Leah

Most kindergartners are still getting a handle on English, but Leah Margaret McMahan of Hancock County is already dreaming about helping people who speak different languages communicate with each other. The student at A.T. Allison Elementary School wants to become an interpreter when she grows up.

Inspired by her mother, a former Spanish teacher, she's already nailing down some Spanish and French.

"I thought I'd like to learn different languages," she said.

"I could help people who speak different languages to communicate with each other," she wrote in her essay. "I could work at a school, with the police, at a TV station, at a hospital or almost anywhere. My job would help a lot of people, and I think it would be so fun."
