Grandparents are Great Teachers Photo Contest

West Virginia's SMART529 program kicked off a two-phase “Grandparents are Great Teachers” photo contest in February 2009. The contest invited grandparents to submit photos of them teaching their grandchildren life enriching skills, such as reading, cooking, drawing, and fishing, for example.

Phase One: The deadline for contest entries for WV grandparents and grandchildren was April 3, 2009. Five regional winners were selected, and each will receive a $500 SMART529 college savings plan account.

Phase Two: The grand prize winner will be selected from the five regional winners through a tally of public votes as of midnight April 24, 2009. Note that the deadline for voting was extended to midnight April 28, 2009.

Grand Prize Winner
The grand prize winner will be announced on May 13th at 10:30 a.m. in a special ceremony at the West Virginia Cultural Center at the Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV. The grand prize winner will receive an additional $4,500 in their SMART529 college savings plan account, and the grandparent will receive a $500 cash award.
